Dehradun's shopping scene centres on a handful of well-established markets, each with a distinct character — from bustling street-level bazaars to more organised commercial strips.

Paltan Bazaar

The city's largest and busiest market, radiating out from the Clock Tower, Paltan Bazaar covers everything from clothing and footwear to jewellery, electronics, and local handicrafts — the best single spot for a broad shopping trip, alongside some of the city's best street food.

Rajpur Road

A more upscale strip with branded stores, cafés, and a calmer shopping atmosphere than Paltan Bazaar's dense crowds — better suited if you're after specific brands rather than browsing local goods.

Astley Hall and Connaught Place

Smaller but well-regarded commercial areas offering a mix of local boutiques and everyday shopping, popular with residents rather than purely tourist-focused.

What's Worth Buying

Basmati rice and locally grown teas make good, genuinely regional souvenirs, alongside handicrafts and woollens more commonly associated with the wider Uttarakhand hill region — worth seeking out specifically in Paltan Bazaar's smaller specialist stalls rather than generic tourist shops.

Shopping Tips

Bargaining is normal and expected at smaller stalls in Paltan Bazaar, less so at fixed-price stores on Rajpur Road. Evenings tend to be the busiest, liveliest time to shop, particularly in Paltan Bazaar.
