Rishikesh's reputation leans heavily toward adventure sports and yoga retreats, but the town offers just as much for families travelling with children — here's what works best.

    1. Triveni Ghat Ganga Aarti

The evening lamp ceremony at Triveni Ghat is a genuinely moving, family-accessible spiritual experience — no special preparation needed, just arrive before sunset to find a good spot.

    2. Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula

These suspension bridges over the Ganga are easy, flat walks with good photo opportunities, lined with shops and cafés on either bank — an easy, low-effort outing for any age group.

    3. Beatles Ashram

The former Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ashram, where the Beatles famously stayed in 1968, is now open to visitors as a graffiti-covered, semi-ruined site — genuinely interesting for older children and teens, especially music-interested ones.

    4. Gentle River Rafting

The shorter, gentler rafting stretches (grade I-II) are suitable for families with children old enough to swim and follow basic instructions — see our rafting guide for which routes fit.

    5. Parmarth Niketan Ashram

One of the largest ashrams in Rishikesh, worth a visit for its scale and evening aarti ceremony, family-friendly and open to respectful visitors.

6-10. Local Markets, Cafés, and Riverside Walks

Beyond the named attractions, simply walking the riverside paths near Ram Jhula, browsing the local markets for souvenirs, and stopping at one of the town's many riverside cafés round out a relaxed, low-pressure family day without needing a packed schedule.
