Delhi Airport to Dehradun: Transportation Options

Once you land at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), you have a genuine choice of ways to cover the final stretch to Dehradun — here's how they compare.

Option 1: Domestic Flight to Jolly Grant Airport

Several Indian domestic carriers operate short flights between Delhi and Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport (DED). This is the fastest way to complete the journey — typically under an hour in the air — and makes sense if you're arriving in Delhi late in the day, are short on time, or simply want to minimize road travel after a long international flight. The tradeoff is an extra airport transfer, security screening, and check-in buffer on both ends, plus the flight itself needs to be booked (domestic schedules and pricing change, so check current options closer to your travel dates).

Option 2: Private Car with Driver

A private car with a driver is the most comfortable overland option, taking roughly 5-6 hours to cover the approximately 250 km route depending on traffic and time of day. It's door-to-door — no airport transfers or check-in queues — and lets you see the countryside along the way, including a stop if you want one.
